13-14-15 July 2012
Primary Celebration: 40 Years Morgan Sports Car Club Holland
Secondary Celebration: 50 Years since Morgan victory in the 1962 Le Mans 24 hours race
Both anniversaries coincide in 2012 which made this double theme an obvious choice, and to celebrate the occasion we are inviting members of Morgan clubs from all over the world to join us in the Netherlands for this special event.
Venue:
The GHQ and epicentre of the celebrations will be situated at the famous TT-circuit at Assen, in North Holland, in an area which includes the picturesque provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe. All events will be taking place from this circuit area which is very conveniently situated near to various hotels, B&B’s, and camping sites. The largest hotel with 185 rooms (Hotel Assen) is only a 5-minute’s drive away.
Update May 2012
The organizing committee for the 40 years MSCCH event is delighted to announce that participants for this event will be coming from all over the world including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Spain, England, Ireland, the USA, Australia and the Isle of Wight.
The Morgan Motor Company will have pride of place on the famous TT-circuit of Assen with its own stand exhibiting all its latest products. Interest for all the events has exceeded all expectations and the sixties-style dinner as well as the driving events on the circuit for Morgan owners are now fully booked. Tickets are now only available on the black market via e-bay!
During the reception on Friday afternoon, courtesy of the Morgan Motor Company together with the Dutch Morgan Importer, NIMAG, distinguished guests will be making an appearance. These will include celebrities from the world of classic cars, historic racing car drivers and political VIP's from the province of Drenthe.
The six scenic runs that have been carefully set out for the 13th, 14th and 15th July have all been designed to enable Series 1 drivers to stop halfway and head back for GHQ in order to be in time for the main events.
The Morgan races should prove to be quite interesting. The three wheeler races will have the added sparkle of historic motorbike sidespan racers as an extra challenge. The Morgan four cylinder race will include TR3, TR4, MGB and Austin Healey racers and the Aero Challenge has never before had so many contestants!
In the Morgan Paddock you will be able to chat with all the racing drivers as well as meander through all the various stands set up to celebrate the those wonderful Sixties years. There will also be a special stand to commemorate the work of Chris Lawrence, the man who, together with Richard Shepherd Barron, won the Le Mans race in 1962. Included in this stand will be a Monica prototype, a Monica with a Chrysler engine and a Deep Sanderson. Formula One V8 engines by Ted Martin will also be on display.
Richard Shepherd Barron will be present as guest of honour to launch the latest edition of the book TOK258, by Ronnie Price.
On Friday and Saturday afternoon the skies will encourage us to bend our necks upwards as a Hunter and two Harvard fighter planes streak across the circuit and into the sunset. Then it's back to turning our necks from left to right to watch the racers. Complete vertebral gymnastics while you watch!
A special race has also been organized for the iconic Sixties 50cc racers. For those who haven't yet experienced these incredibly fast machines, it will be a rare opportunity to see something really spectacular.
The Morgan Promotion Tour with many English participants will be making visits en route to Montreuil sur Mer and Bruges before arriving at Assen. The exact route of all three etappes will be shown on the website www.mscch.com
For those who have booked in at Hotel Brugge or Oostkamp, we would advise you to visit the beautiful city centre of Bruges by taxi since parking in the centre can be a problem. This also allows you to partake of the special Belgian beers on offer without worrying about how to drive home.
Everyone is free to merge into the Morgan Promotion Tour convoy whenever they wish, and the visit to the incredible Louwman museum on 12th July is something that shouldn't be missed. See www.louwmanmuseum.nl if you think we are exaggerating! A lunch stop here is highly recommended.

Tot ziens in Assen! (Pronounced: 'tot scenes in Assen'. It helps to learn a bit of Dutch in advance)
